MAY 28, 2013 - LAST NEWSLETTER OF THE YEAR! RONDA'S CORNER
I had a good turnout on the 15th for the Western New York Library Assistants Getting to Know You event. Library support staff from around the region came together for this event which included a tour of St. Bonaventure’s rare book collection consisting of books published mostly in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, We also toured the Friedsam Memorial Library. The tour of both venues was topped off with a small reception and networking session held at the CASLS Main office training center. Libraries represented at the event included Buffalo and Erie County Public Library, Western NY Library Resource Council, Olean Public Library, Daemen College Library, C/A BOCES Professional Library, Franklinville MH Library, University of Buffalo Health Sciences Library, and NIOGA Library System. We even had a guest visitor all the way from the Caribbeans (Captain Jack Sparrow). Here are a few pictures from the day.
From Jim Belairs: At the SLSA luncheon with Rosen, it was requested I share the link for my eBook video tutorials. You can access: www.monroe2boces.org/ebooks. Under each eBook vendor, click on More Information. This will take you to a page which has the video tutorial, a user guide for each eBook vendor, and a title listing from each vendor. The More Information Pages are done using Ensemble.
Here’s a radio interview with unique ideas for teaching with nonfiction. Total Education Network’s Neil Haley interviews Vicki Cobb.
Vicki Cobb, award winning children’s book author, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 21st Century Children’s Nonfiction Conference. She will also present a workshop on “How Nonfiction Books Can Bring the Joy of Learning Back to the Classroom.” Vicki is the founder of iNK Think Tank, an online organization of award-winning nonfiction authors who bring their writing wisdom into classrooms.
